Consider the philosophes that you have read about. Consider their philosophies and explain how and why they would react to the following issues.


1. John Locke on the American attempt to achieve a “regime change” in Iraq.
- According to the enlightenment graph, he would react on the following issue by adapting natural rights and pursuit of happiness, because he thinks that humans are born good (Tabula Rasa) and there were no natural rights in their feudal society.
2. Voltaire on the rule that no headdress of any kind would be allowed inside Canadian Legion (old story), or in today’s France that no religious symbols be allowed in public schools, i.e. turbans, hanukkahs, crucifixes, hajibs etc.
- He attacked religious principles or set of principles lay down by an authority. He respects it because he believes in religious rights and tolerance.
3. Rousseau on Myriad Genetics Corporation’s hold on patents that determine whether a woman has the genetic precondition that will lead to breast cancer.
-rosseau would have challenged the ownership of patents, because he believes in private ownership
4. Adam Smith on the Korean government’s decision to privatize services.
- he wants to apply justice and penal system. According to him real wealth comes from land and labour, not precious metals and he also oppose to mercantalism.
5. Cesare Beccaria on the use of capital punishment.
- Cesare beccaria would have argued about the capital punishment, because he believes that his against capital punishments and he supports rehabilitate or helping some to change or to be a much better person.
